Early Years

Lucy was born in 1983 in London and stems from Greek and Jewish German heritage. She grew up in Epsom in Surrey, where she lived with her younger sister, two dogs, one cat, four chickens and a goldfish. Her Greek grandparents soon moved into the house next doors to Lucy, and she spent her childhood bouncing between her parents’ and her grandparents’ houses. Even at a young age, Lucy enjoyed performing, often organising little plays for herself and her young cousins to show at family gatherings!

She went to school at Sutton High, and left at 13 to attend Epsom College. An all-rounder at school, she excelled at the subjects she enjoyed, namely the arts and sport. She played competitive netball and tennis for her college, sung in the chapel choir – and of course enjoyed a hectic social life! She took four A-levels (English Literature, Art, Theatre Studies and Classical Civilisation) and left school with three As and one B.

It was at school that Lucy discovered her true love of performance. Working with an amazing director, Richard Sheehan, she was given the chance to explore multiple avenues in theatre, singing, comic sketches and devised pieces, with opportunities to direct multiple soiree evenings and work closely with production and creation of shows. She also started to watch more films and short adaptations from all over the world as her interest in cinematography and acting developed.

Like many teenagers, Lucy travelled for a year after finishing school. She worked in an elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka, game reserves in South Africa and on a conservation project in Fiji. She then backpacked her way round New Zealand and Australia and finished her gap year living in Athens, where she taught scuba diving to tourists and residents – and indulged her lifelong love of Greek food!

University Life and Pole Dancing

Though she planned to audition for drama school, Lucy wanted to broaden her understanding of the academic side of literature before embarking on a vocational course. She believes that an actor’s main tools are the words she commands, and Lucy wanted to ground her education firmly by commanding a lot!

During her second and third years at university, Lucy set up the UK’s first Pole Exercise club. She had a vision – now shared by many – of bringing pole dancing out of the nightclub and into the living room, knowing what great exercise (and great fun!) it could be. She was also one of the first to target this unique form of exercise at men as well as women, over time developing a distinct style of pole dancing with them.

Lucy devoted many hours to running the club, writing an instruction syllabus, training instructors, and of course giving classes. Many students responded to her dedication and enthusiasm, and it had become the most successful sports club on campus by the time she left York.

Alongside her pole work, Lucy began to train in aerial silks (tisu) and cordalisse – a circus technique made famous by Cirque du Soleil. She also found time to attend workshops in other circus disciplines including static trapeze and Chinese Pole.

Towards the end of her degree, she formed her own production company, Lucy Misch Productions Ltd, and filmed and edited the first ever Pole Exercise DVD. The DVD is currently sold through the popular Pole Exercise website, which also provides a wealth of information for pole dancers all over the world. Since then, Lucy has devised and directed various performances based around her circus and pole skills.

The Future

Although she found her first two years there intense and challenging, she was determined to take every drop of knowledge she could from her teachers in order to improve her own talent and craft.

Having left Italia Conti early in January 2009, after successfully securing a top agent, she has spent the first years enjoying the challenges and exciting work within the industry. She is looking forward to a new year of challenging and stimulating work.
